Your Lifestyle Protector

Meet Corey

Corey Rix with his partner and children

“I founded Rix Insurance in 2010 to put the client relationship first - taking the time to understand people, explain their options clearly and be there long after the policy is in place as a genuine one-on-one financial adviser for life - a true ‘lifestyle protector’. After more than 30 years in the industry, I’m just as passionate about what insurance can do for people and the stories about the lifestyles that have been genuinely protected continue to drive me.

I don’t run a set and forget business - I am guided by each client's needs, communication and review processes to make sure we’re always on top of your life, and any circumstances that change along the way. The one piece of feedback that I get time and time again is that I make insurance easy and simple. It can be a highly stressful time thinking about the future and ‘worst case’ scenario, but my clients appreciate that they have me to support them at every stage of life.

Today, I’m based in Hawke’s Bay with my partner and our two young children. Outside work, you’ll usually find me on a bike, surfing or diving, getting outdoors with my kids, playing guitar (poorly) or planning our next family adventure.

Becoming a dad has only reinforced what being a ‘Lifestyle Protector’ means to me - giving families and businesses of all sizes options when life doesn’t go to plan.”

Personalised guidance at every step

01

Obligation-Free Connect

We get to know each other and talk about your life, circumstances, priorities and what you want to protect - obligation free. Catch up for a coffee or virtually on a video call or over the phone - whatever works for you.

02

Discovery and Preparation

We take a deeper dive together into your requirements, needs and goals. I personally research the available options and recommend the cover I believe is best suited to your protection needs, then prepare your Statement of Advice outlining my recommendations.

03

Approval and Implementation

We review everything together, and once you’re happy that everything is right for you, we complete and submit your application to your chosen insurer for assessment. I manage the process through to your cover being put in place, and follow up directly with the insurer to ensure everything is set up exactly as discussed.

04

Maintenance and Management

I stay in regular contact with you to ensure your cover remains up to date and continues to reflect your circumstances. Should you need to make a claim, I can also help manage the process with your provider on your behalf or simply be available to assist you as needed.

Does it cost anything to meet with you?

It’s no cost to meet with me - your initial consultation is free. This can happen over a coffee in person, or, virtually on a video call or over the phone. Further meets are charged in accordance with my fee structure. Learn more here.

How long is the first meeting?

Generally the first meeting is around 30 minutes.

Can you review the insurance I already have?

Definitely, reviewing existing insurance cover to ensure it is still relevant to your current needs is all part of the service.

Do I need to live in Hawke’s Bay to work with you?

I work with clients from all over New Zealand. If you’re local, we can meet in person or online depending on your preference and if you’re based outside the Hawkes Bay, we can connect on the phone or online.

Can we meet virtually?

Yes, meets can happen via online video (Microsoft Teams, Zoom) or phone call - whatever your preference.

Which insurers do you work with?

Partners include AIA, Asteron Life, Chubb Life, Fidelity Life, nib and Partners Life. Having relationships with all these providers, you’ll get the perfect match for your needs and requirements.

How often should I review my insurance?

Regularly reviewing your insurance is a must. Each year you’re emailed a questionnaire around every policy anniversary and depending on the answer, this will dictate whether we should meet for a chat or review. Outside this, I am available to meet anytime, especially if there’s been a change in circumstances or significant life events such as, birth of a child, purchasing or selling property, a new job or a change to self-employment, a marriage, divorce or even a salary increase.

What happens if I need to make a claim?

If you need to make a claim or think you need to make a claim in the first instance, touch base and I’ll advise any next steps. This is one of the most important aspects of my services, ensuring the claims process is as smooth and easy as possible.

I am thinking about switching insurers - can you help with this?

Yes - but there are many factors that need to be considered before switching to a new insurer. Together we will go through any factors and risks, and I’ll advise whether it would be in your best interests to switch or stay put, when looking at the entire offering and impact of any potential changes.

How much does insurance cost?

No one policy is the same. Insurance is priced on many factors such as age, gender, occupation, smoking status, type of insurance benefit and the benefit amount required. There is no “one size fits all” when it comes to pricing insurance.

What type of insurance do you offer?

I work with personal insurance and business insurance clients. This includes Life, Trauma/Critical Illness, Total and Permanent Disability, Income/Mortgage Protection and Private Medical Insurance.

What happens if I want to cancel my insurance?

I’ll work with you to understand the reasons behind the change, and advise whether you should consider cancelling or to re-structure your policy to ensure the best outcome for your circumstances.

Why would I need personal insurance?

Personal insurance is important to protect income, cover medical costs, and secure your family's financial future if the unexpected happens. Key reasons include replacing lost earnings, paying off debts like a mortgage, and funding private healthcare. Learn more about Personal Insurance options and cover here.

Why would I need business insurance?

If you are a business owner there are many reasons you should consider business insurance and it depends on the type of business. Learn more about Business Insurance options and cover here.
